The stunning coastline of the Eyre Peninsula has a reputation for being Australia’s Seafood hot-spot. Fresh seafood is in abundance along this coastline, and in the picturesque town of Coffin Bay, it’s the Oysters that are the hero. Coffin Bay is renowned for Oysters in restaurants around Australia, and the interest from visitors wanting to learn how the Oysters are harvested has been the catalyst in creating these tours.
This is a once in a lifetime seafood dining experience, and the only tour of it’s kind in the world where you can sit in the water and taste fresh oysters straight out of the sea!
Climb into waterproof waders and hear from The Oyster Farmer himself who will be your tour guide, sharing information on Oyster Farming practices, the history of Coffin Bay, and how it got it’s name.
Wading out through the beautiful waters of the picturesque Coffin Bay, youll climb aboard our semi-submerged ‘Salt Water Pavilion’ which is situated right in a working commercial Oyster Lease. Youll get to see how oysters grow, see baby oysters, learn how to shuck your very own oysters, and best of all get to taste them fresh out of the water, a once-in-a-lifetime experience!.
By the conclusion of the tour, you will have gained an insiders knowledge of what makes Coffin Bay Oysters so delectable, and be on your way to becoming master Oyster shuckers! The tours are 1.5 hours in length and include a tasting of both Pacific and the Native Angasi oysters, waders to wear for the tour, a shucking lesson and an experience you’ll never forget. “We’re pretty lucky with the quality of seafood here on the Eye peninsula, but cannot get any fresher than these Coffin Bay Oysters direct from the Lease. What a great morning we had on the Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tour”
